      In 2022, a group of international reporters arranged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited the NHIA in the afternoon of October 13 to learn about the success of the National Health Insurance. Dr. Po-Chang Lee, Director General of the NHIA, briefed the 25 reporters from 21 countries on NHI policies and measures in English, introduced the book Digital Health Care in Taiwan Innovations of National Health Insurance published by Springer in August, and presented the achievements in safeguarding public health since the implementation of the NHI on March 1, 1995.

      The 25 reporters from 21 countries, including the United States, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Greece, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Belize, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Paraguay, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Jordan, Sri Lanka, Marshall Islands, Palau, Fiji, and Somaliland, visited the NHIA. In addition to sharing its valuable experience, the NHIA also shared how it used innovative digital healthcare applications during the pandemic, including the NHI APP and the Virtual NHI Card to safeguard public health. For example, the NHI APP, which only had 100,000 users at the end of December 2015, enhancements and application expansions, has exceeded 10 million users on June 29, 2022. The NHIA also shared the planning  copayment adjustments in response to the health challenges in the post-pandemic era, including new drugs, new technologies, and new treatments.

      Director General Lee stated that the NHIA will continue to work towards systematic reforms and improving various digital health measures. In response to the progress of the times, the NHIA will continue to revolutionize old ideas and introduce new measures, thereby ensuring the sustainable management of the NHI and maintaining the health of the Taiwanese people.

      The foreign reporters shared their opinions on the management, application, and future developments of the NHI. They also showed interest in the achievements and future development trends of healthcare in Taiwan. The discussions were lively and yielded fruitful results.
