Dr. Po-Chang Lee, Director General of the NHIA, said that in order to provide the public with a useful health management tool, the NHIA established My Health Bank which includes information on medical treatments and medications, vaccinations, consent to palliative and hospice care, screening results for four types of cancer, and adult preventive health care. As of November 30, 2022, the number of My Health Bank users hit 10.83 million, making it the biggest health management tool in Taiwan in terms of user numbers. In addition, My Health Bank added annual medical expense information in 2020, and drugs, tests and examinations expense information in 2021 to enhance users’ awareness of expenses. In 2022, details on medical expenses were added to make medical expenses more transparent.

The NHIA said that medical expense details in My Health Bank come from the claims from NHI-contracted hospitals. As for outpatient NHI claims, there are five items, including medication fees, dispensing fees, diagnosis and treatment fees (including inspection fees), diagnostic fees, and special material fees. As for inpatient NHI claims, there are 17 items, including examination fees, ward fees, tube feeding fees, inspection fees, radiotherapy diagnosis and treatment fees, treatment fees, surgery fees, rehabilitation treatment fees, blood plasma fees, hemodialysis fees, and anesthesia fees, special material fees, medication fees, dispensing fees, psychiatric treatment fees, injection technician fees, and infant care fees.

The NHIA expects to display the details of NHI medical expenses on My Health Bank to improve the awareness of medical expenses among the public and to optimize the efficient use of NHI funds.
