May is upon us and so is the tax season. The National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) would like to remind everyone who adopts itemized deductions when declaring their individual income tax, the total amount of NHI premium paid in 2022 (including supplementary premiums) can be deducted in full and is not subject to the maximum NT$24,000 in insurance premium deductions normally allowed.

In response to the digitalization of itemized deduction documents for individual income tax program implemented by the Ministry of Finance, during the tax filing period of May, the public can inquire their 2022 NHI premium (including supplementary premium) payment details using their Citizen Digital Certificate or registered NHI card via the E-Filing System of Individual Income Tax or at the counters of any branch or office of the National Taxation Bureau. Online tax-filing can also be done in the same way without the need to provide a proof of payment of NHI premiums.

NHIA explained that in addition to the abovementioned methods, the public can make inquiries about their NHI premium (including supplementary premium) payment details to the insured company, the affiliated craft union (including the Fishermen's Association or Farmers Association), and the unit withholding the supplementary premiums. Moreover, starting from today, the following channels are available for inquiring and printing out these documents:

  1. The NHIA website (https://www.nhi.gov.tw): Go to Online Counter/ Online Counter for Underwriting/ General Public/ Online Services for Individual NHI Data and log in with the natural person certificate or the registered NHI card; relevant documents can be printed out by selecting Apply and Print Certificates/ Proof of Payment of NHI Premiums (for annual tax declaration) Online Printing.
  2. The NHI App: Go to E-Counter/ Proof of Enrollment/ Proof of Payment of NHI Premiums and apply for the documents to be sent to a specific email address.
  3. The administrative office of the village, township, city, or area where your insurance is registered or an Administration Division or a contact office of NHIA: Bring the ID card to carry out the inquiry and print out the documents.
  4. The ibon system in 7-11: Log in with the Citizen Digital Certificate and proceed to print out the inquired documents; however, a NT$3 per page printing fee must be paid.
