National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) reminds everyone to continue the NHI enrollment when retiring to ensure your rights to medical treatment. If the retired individual has a spouse or a child or grandchild who is an insured, the individual should be enrolled as a dependent of one of the insured family members and the decision must be made according to the order: 1) the spouse or a child, 2) a grandchild and 3) a great grandchild or above; selected member have to assist with the enrollment process and the collection of premiums. If the retired individual is not married, the spouse is also retired and enrolling as a dependent of a lineal descendant is not possible, or for other legal reasons that enrolling as a dependent to an insured family member is impossible, the individual should be enrolled with the local administration office of their household registration address as an insured of Category 6.

NHIA reminds that the Ministry of Health and Welfare and local governments of each city or county offer NHI premium subsidies for the insureds that meet particular criteria. (Please refer to https://gov.tw/e9d for details.) People who meet such criteria must enroll in NHI to be eligible for such subsidies. In addition, NHI App users can go to E-Counter and click on "Enrollment Record Inquiry" to review their enrollment data; NHI App users who are eligible for premium subsidies may click on "Individual Subsidy Data Inquiry" to look up subsidies information.
