To improve the quality of service, the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) has developed multiple alternative premium payment methods for the convenience of the policyholders. Despite the monthly issuance of bills, individual may find it challenging to adhere to payment deadlines due to competing priorities. To avoid such situations, the policyholders are advised to established a pre-authorized account transfer linked to their bank accounts, so the bank can automatically transfer the premium payment every month for them. This method not only saves individuals the spent queuing for the payment, but also facilitates easy management of payment records, viewable in their passbooks.

The NHIA stated that the customer service department receives numerous phone calls from company cashiers or individuals requesting for a reissuance of bills to avoid the late surcharges. Many of these instances result from a failure to update their communicating addresses after relocating. As soon as a pre-authorized account transfer is set up for the account of a company or the insured, the above-mentioned troubles related to premium payments will be immediately resolved. In addition, if a refund shall occur due to modifications of NHI enrollment status, the NHIA will ensure the automatic transfer of the relevant amount into the designated account, alleviating the need for refund or visit the bank to cash the check.

Before the pre-authorized account transfer is in effect, the companies or individuals may continue to receive the bills for one or two months. The individual is encouraged to pay these bills with another one of the many alternative methods that the NHIA offers. Moreover, the companies or the policyholders must ensure that the designated account maintains sufficient funds by the 15th of the upcoming month to prevent failed transaction due to insufficient funds and potential late surcharges. The NHIA strongly advocates for utilization of the pre-authorized account transfer service for NHI premium payments. Once the service is activated, there will be no needs to worry about going to make the timely payments, forgetting to make the payment, inadvertently overlooking bills during international travel or relocation. Moreover, this service is free of transaction fees.
