The National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) has implemented various measures to support the underprivileged population. For instance, it established the Reporting Platform for the Underprivileged Population and initiated inter-agency cooperation to provide timely assistance in addressing issues related to delayed NHI premium payments for this population.

The NHIA and the Administrative Enforcement Agency of the Ministry of Justice have jointly initiated an inter-agency cooperation for the care of the underprivileged population. When encountering individuals who suffer unforeseen events leading to financial difficulties preventing them from paying the NHI premium, the Administrative Enforcement Agency will file a report on the Reporting Platform for the Underprivileged Population, or via telephone or fax. Upon receiving the report, the NHIA will submit an application to the NHI Donation Account on their behalf to pay off the overdue NHI premium, safeguarding their rights to medical treatment and ensuring access to medical visits when necessary. According to statistics from the past three years, a total of 1,221 insured individuals (including family dependents) have benefited from such measures, with over NT$23,630,000 of NHI premiums paid off. With the best interests of the underprivileged population in mind, the NHIA will continue these inter-agency collaborations to offer assistance to individuals experiencing financial hardships

The NHIA has specified that caring for the underprivileged population has always been one of its core visions. The NHI Donation Account has received contributions from individuals from all walks of life, harnessing the collective effort of the community to support underprivileged families during challenging times. The NHIA would like to extend its deepest gratitude and respect to all donors, and assures them that the donations will be utilized with prudence to maximize their positive impact.
