The National Health Insurance (NHI) program is soon to mark its 30th anniversary. The National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) organized the "Smart Healthcare Pilot" walk carnival at Weiwuying Metropolitan Park, renowned as "the green dream", in Kaohsiung on May 11. Director General Chung-Liang Shih of the NHIA graced the occasion, delivering the opening remarks and presenting certificates of appreciation to various organizations for their steadfast support and contributions to the NHI program, as well as their charitable efforts aimed at aiding the underprivileged population. With the sound of an air horn signaling the start of the walk, Director General Shih, alongside esteemed guests from medical organizations, healthcare facilities, charity groups, and the general public of Kaohsiung, embarked on the walk with determined strides towards promoting smart healthcare and ensuring the sustainability of the NHI program.

During the event, the NHIA offered on-the-spot services to introduce the NHI App and assist the public in setting up and becoming acquainted with digital technology-enabled health management. Medical facilities from the Kaohsiung area were also invited to showcase various applications of smart healthcare, such as an AI-based ECG alert and assessment system, as well as a Ryodoraku App designed to analyze meridian energy. Additionally, the NHIA set up stands covering various topics, including a fun challenge related to the digital NHI program, health education aimed at preventing and treating metabolic syndrome, information on organ donation, and discussions on hospice care.

Director General Shih remarked that Taiwan's NHI program has achieved outstanding performance on a global scale, attributing its success to the collective endeavors of the entire medical sector in safeguarding the health of the Taiwanese population. He emphasized that the NHIA remains committed to investing in healthcare and enhancing holistic medical services, incorporating new drugs and medical technologies into the payment package each year. In response to the challenges posed by the development of digital technologies and an aging society, the NHIA is taking initiatives to implement digital transformations. These include expanding and optimizing the functions of My Health Bank, adding value to the service and performance of the MediCloud System, implementing the NHI Telemedicine Program to benefit rural populations, and reinforcing information security and management for the NHI system. Collectively, these actions by the NHIA are improving healthcare and health management capabilities for the entire population.
