In response to World Heart Day, the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) is collaborating with nine major associations, including the Taiwan Heart Foundation and the Taiwan Society of Cardiology, to implement clinical pathways for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk classification and blood lipid management. The goal of this initiative is to safeguard the health of all Taiwanese people by enhancing the prevention and treatment effectiveness of cardiovascular diseases.
Director General Chung-Liang Shih of the NHIA highlighted the following points:
- Timely intervention and prevention are essential for cardiovascular diseases; early detection and effective treatments are critical to minimizing associated risks.
- The NHIA aims to complete the establishment of the Family Physician Platform by the end of 2024. This platform will compile all health data for individuals and provide automated health risk forecasts and alerts.
- With the help of digital technologies, the NHIA looks forward to empowering the public through My Health Bank, which allows users to take initiative in health self-management, effectively preventing or delaying illnesses and thereby supporting the goals of the Healthy Taiwan policy.
To raise awareness of relevant diseases, the NHIA is proactively implementing the 888 Plan: Hypertension, Hyperglycemia, and Hyperlipidemia Prevention. The goal of the plan is to include 80% of patients with hypertension, hyperglycemia, or hyperlipidemia in shared care networks and ensure that 80% of these patients receive lifestyle consultations. This initiative aims to achieve an 80% control rate for hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and hyperglycemia, ultimately creating a healthier Taiwan.
