The National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) has long been committed to caring for the underprivileged population, particularly focusing on minors and low-income families, in order to help them overcome the challenge of unpaid premiums. The NHIA utilized the Taiwan Lottery revenue from 2024 to assist minors and low-income families in overcoming the issue of unpaid health insurance premiums. By actively understanding their situations and offering timely support to apply for health insurance subsidies, the NHIA ensures their access to healthcare services. Additionally, referrals are made to charitable organizations and family support centers for home visits, providing emergency relief funds, scholarships, and living supplies, offering immediate assistance and helping them feel the warmth of society.
Over the past 30 years of the NHI program's implementation, the NHIA has not only provided insurance for healthcare services to improve the health of all Taiwanese people but has also continued to implement various healthcare reforms and innovative services to fulfill the vision of quality and sustainability. Furthermore, care for the underprivileged is embedded in the spirit of the NHI program. The NHIA is committed to safeguarding the underprivileged population. The NHI Donation Account and the Reporting Platform for the underprivileged population were established to encourage the public to care for and support these groups. Additionally, the NHIA collects funds from Taiwan Lottery revenue to cover the NHI premiums for individuals facing severe financial difficulties, ensuring their right to medical treatment and enabling them to access healthcare when needed.
The NHIA emphasized that it has taken initiatives to collaborate with local authorities overseeing social welfare, public health, and labor, as well as non-governmental social welfare organizations and charities. These collaborations aim to create a 24/7 NHI care network for the underprivileged by gathering and coordinating charitable resources from all sectors, offering assistance through public-private partnerships. Those facing sudden misfortunes and vulnerable households in difficult situations require support from every corner of society. As the NHI program celebrates its 30th anniversary, the NHIA would like to express its gratitude to the public for their support in achieving the mission of continuously improving the health of all Taiwanese people while safeguarding the underprivileged. The NHIA remains dedicated to lighting up hope and passing on the love.
