The Bureau of National Health Insurance has announced “NHI relief measures for Morakot Victims” to ensue all victims who are unable to pay insurance premiums still retain the access to medical care without any barriers. All insured and his/her dependants who received the government's financial aids for death, missing, severe injury or re-location allowances due to the typhoon disaster are qualified for the following relief measures:

1.The Insured whose IC cards were unusable or lost due to the Morakot Typhoon Disaster can be renewed free of charge before December 2009.

2.Medical Services (August 7-November 30, 2009):

(1)The insured who had their IC cards lost can receive medical care by providing personal data, including the name, ID number and birth date to the medical institution.
(2)Medical payments exemption:

(a)Copayments are exempted from outpatient care, inpatient care and emergency care.
(b)Food cost during hospitalization is also exempted.
(c)Individuals who are not enrolled in the NHI or have unpaid premiums are able to access to medical care as insured. The NHI branch offices will help those people apply for interest- free loan or installment payment.

(3)Reimbursement of the self-advanced medical expenses:
If Insured already paid for NHI copayment and food cost during hospitalization, they can apply for reimbursement of above-mentioned expenses from NHI branch offices within six months after this NHI relief measures expire.

3.Premium Assistance:

(1)Exempted from premium contribution for six months (August 2009 – January 2010).
(2)The payment deadline for outstanding insurance premium from July to November 2009 can be postponed for six months.
(3)Eligible for NHI interest-free loan application to pay off outstanding or overdue insurance premium for one year.
(4)Exempted from receiving debt collecting notice of overdue premium payment for one year.
(5)There will be no administrative execution for overdue insurance premium for one year.
(6)Exempted from overdue fine for delayed contribution for one year.
