To ensure care for the underprivileged and safeguard the healthcare rights of children and adolescents facing family hardships, the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) has been actively collaborating with various sectors to assist minors in paying their NHI premiums, preventing any disruption in healthcare access due to financial difficulties.

The NHIA is committed to protecting the rights of disadvantaged minors by regularly reviewing their insurance status and collaborating with social welfare agencies through a real-time reporting platform. This helps identify cases where children face unpaid premiums due to family hardships such as parental incarceration, death, or disappearance. To ease their burden, the NHIA actively utilizes charitable donations, public welfare lottery funds, and partnerships with local governments to help minors pay overdue premiums. In 2024 alone, around 4,200 minors received assistance totaling NT$38.87 million, significantly reducing the financial strain on vulnerable families.

National Health Insurance is a vital foundation for social stability. The NHIA will continue to mobilize collective support from society, expand outreach efforts, and provide timely assistance to those facing financial hardship, in order to strengthen social security and protect the health rights of the people.
