A delegation of U.S. Mid-Western States’ Legislative Leaders, comprising Hon. James P. Metzen, President of the Senate, and 11 other members, visited on September 3rd, 2009 to discuss with the Bureau issues about medical disputes, payments for medical expenses and NHI IC cards.

Dr. Maria LEVYOVA, President of the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives (SCNM), and Dr. Martina SEKACOVA, Director of SCNM, visited on September 22nd, 2009 to inquire about issues on the health insurance payment system and NHI IC cards.

A delegation of New England Legislative Leaders, comprising House Member Shap Smith and 11 other members, visited on October 7th, 2009, and expressed great interest in the impact on medical care services during the launch of National Health Insurance. The delegation expressed high praise for Taiwan’s NHI.

A delegation of Western U.S. Congressional Districts’ Directors, comprising Ms. Margaret Ballard and 7 other members, visited on October 12th, 2009 to understand the health insurance issues. Including the management of high frequency of doctor visits, how health insurance premiums are calculated and NHI IC cards.

Dr. Seydou Bouda, Minister of Health of Burkina Faso, along with 6 other members, visited on October 28th, 2009, to inquire about issues on whether the NHI cover the medical treatment incurred outside the Taiwan areas, how to manage the financial deficit, and how can the low-income families enroll in the NHI.

Dr. Dana W. Hanson, President of the World Medical Association, along with 7 other members, visited on November 12th, 2009, expressing great interest in financial issues of the NHI, the family doctor system and the implementation of Taiwan’s DRGs.

A delegation from the U.S. Democratic National Committee, comprising Ms. Aleita J. Huguenin and 10 other members, visited on November 20th, 2009, with deep interest in medical disputes, migrant workers’ enrollment and financial problems of the NHI.

The 11th delegation of U.S. Congressional Assistants, comprising Mr. Denise Blanchard and 13 other members, visited on November 24th, 2009, to understand issues about medical disputes, private insurance companies’ attitudes towards the implementation of NHI, and the items covered by the Traditional Chinese medicine.

Parliamentarian Pawl Poncyliusz, Vice Chairman of the Poland-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group and the former Deputy Minister of Economy of Poland, along with 3 other members, visited on November 9th, 2009, to inquire about issues over income sources of the NHI, medical expenses paid by patients, and how insurance premiums are calculated.

Hyung-Gun Chung, President of the National Health Insurance Corporation, along with 6 other members, visited on December 21st, 2009, and expressed interest in collection of NHI premiums and NHI IC cards. They also visited the Department of Health, Wan Fang Hospital and Taipei Joint Outpatient Center.
