To strengthen the pharmaceutical supply chain, the NHIA has announced revisions to the "National Health Insurance Drug Reimbursement Scheme and Payment Standards" and the "National Health Insurance Drug Price Adjustment Procedures," offering diversified drug pricing measures. Additionally, over 200 drug reimbursement prices were raised in 2024.
Aspirin has been available globally for over 120 years. According to statistics, Bayer's aspirin market share in 2024 was 3.5%, with 33 generic versions of the same ingredient covered by the NHI. In medical centers, only 4 of them used aspirin. Additionally, Glucophage 50mg and 100mg had market shares of 10.8% and 15.7% in 2024, respectively. There are 23 and 5 generic versions covered by the NHI for these dosages, with only 4 and 2 medical centers using them, while other healthcare institutions primarily use generics.
To strengthen the resilience of the pharmaceutical supply chain, in 2024, the Executive Yuan allocated NT$20 billion to the NHI Fund under the "Special Act for Strengthening Economic, Social, and National Security Resilience in Response to International Circumstances." This funding is aimed at addressing the increased manufacturing costs. In the future, the NHIA will fully commit to stabilizing the drug supply chain, ensuring the availability of essential drugs for clinical needs, and safeguarding the public's access to medications.
