The National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) received reports today from the public regarding unknown individuals impersonating the NHIA to send text messages or emails. These messages claim to be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the health insurance program and ask for account verification and refunds, providing a link to a refund application page to trick people into revealing their personal information. The NHIA once again urges the public that if they receive suspicious text messages or links, they should delete them immediately and avoid clicking on any links to prevent falling victim to scams..
The NHIA stated that any notifications regarding payment collection or refunds will be sent via official documents with a seal or through government-issued short-code text messages from the number "111." If an email is used, the sender's email address will always be "@nhi.gov.tw," and the email will be digitally signed. Recently, scam groups have been using various tactics. If you receive an email from "NHI.GOV.TW" with content claiming to notify you about refunds or receiving related fees, please do not click on any links and delete the email immediately.
The NHIA particularly reminds the public that scam emails often contain links to malicious phishing websites. If you click on such links out of curiosity, there is a high risk of having your account, password, or other personal information stolen by scammers, or even causing your phone or computer to become infected with malware. If you receive a malicious email with an unknown link, do not follow any instructions. If you accidentally click on it, it is recommended to immediately have a professional IT specialist check the security of your device to prevent personal data leakage or financial loss.
The NHIA once again urges the public to remain vigilant when receiving suspicious links or information. If you have any doubts, please call the NHIA's toll-free hotline (landline: 0800-030-598 or 4128-678, mobile: dial 02-4128-678) for verification, or report the incident to the National Police Agency of Ministry of the Interior at the 165 anti-fraud hotline.
