To enable a sustainable national health insurance system, the adjusted insurance rates will take effect starting from April 1, 2010. With the general public's economic burden in mind, this adjustment will not increase insurance premiums for about 78% of insured. For the remaining 22% who have a relatively stable income, they will have to pay an additional amount of between less than NT$100 to several hundred NT dollars each month.

People in special circumstances who are unable to pay insurance premiums may apply to the Bureau of National Health Insurance (BNHI) for assistance. Assistance available includes interest-free loans from the Poverty Relief Fund and payment of premiums in installments. If you need assistance, please contact the BNHI regional divisions or call our toll-free at: 0800030598.

To allow the public to better understand the premiums applicable to them, the BNHI has prepared and posted on its website three easy-to-understand tables -- "Example Illustrating an Insured's Copayments"(attached file #1), "Insurance Premium Subsidies for Employees with Different Insurance Amounts and Incomes"(attached file #2), and "Health Insurance Premiums Before and After Adjustment"(attached file #3).
