The 2026 Healthy Taiwan National Forum was held on May 3rd at Taipei Veterans General Hospital. Approximately 600 representatives attended, including government officials, healthcare experts and researchers, members of medical and pharmaceutical associations, and representatives from various medical institutions.
In response to the challenges posed by cancer and chronic diseases, the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) continues to optimize its reimbursement schemes and healthcare quality. The NHIA remains committed to safeguarding public health through prevention, screening, and treatment.
2030 Cancer Prevention Initiative: The "Three Arrows" Strategy
Director General Lian-Yu Chen outlined the "Three Arrows" strategy of the 2030 Cancer Prevention Initiative, which aims to reduce the standardized cancer mortality rate by one-third by 2030.
1. Arrow One: Strengthening Early Cancer Screening
Abnormal results from the five cancer screenings trigger automatic notifications via the NHI App, reminding users to seek necessary medical follow-up.
2. Arrow Two: Advancing Genetic Testing and Precision Medicine
The NHI now covers 12 types of NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) cancer screenings and 7 single-gene tests, enabling personalized treatment strategies.
3. Arrow Three: Establishing a Ten-billion National Cancer Drug Fund
In 2025, the NHI reimbursement scheme included 13 new cancer drugs and expanded the coverage for 13 existing drugs. Additionally, provisional payments included 7 new cancer drugs and expanded coverage for 3 existing drugs. These measures cover 16 types of cancer, benefiting over 10,900 patients.
The 888 Program for Chronic Disease Management
The NHIA is diligently implementing the 888 Program to safeguard public health. By focusing on early intervention and health management for hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and hyperglycemia, the risk of chronic diseases and cardiovascular disease can be reduced.
1. Enrollment: 80% of patients with 3 Highs or Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) are enrolled in the care network.
2. Counseling: 80% of enrolled patients receive professional lifestyle counseling.
3. Control: 80% of patients within the care network achieve effective metabolic control.
With the support of local clinics and regional hospitals, the healthcare system provides continuous integrated care to over 6.5 million patients. As of 2025, approximately 60.7% of patients with "3 Highs" were enrolled in relevant chronic disease care programs. Patients can complete the lifestyle questionnaire on the My Health Bank, enabling physicians to provide health consultations and referrals. In 2025, approximately 1.6 million patients received lifestyle consultations. The NHIA remains committed to excellence in the pursuit of sustainable health and safeguarding the well-being of all.
