The National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) expanded NHI drug coverage in August 2026 by adding multiple medicines for cancer, hemophilia, neurological disorders, infectious diseases, osteoporosis, and myopia control in children. This expansion is expected to benefit more than 13,000 patients within the first five years, reducing their financial burden and improving treatment outcomes.

- Endometrial Cancer
Medicinal products containing dostarlimab (Jemperli concentrate for solution for infusion) are now covered for patients with dMMR/MSI-H primary advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer. Compared with chemotherapy alone, dostarlimab-containing therapy can reduce the risk of disease progression and improve survival outcomes.- Estimated number of beneficiaries: approximately 270–479 patients.
- Patient's Estimated Savings: approximately NT$1.776 million per patient/year in drug expenses.
- Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)
Medicinal products containing gilteritinib (Xospata film-coated tablets) have been expanded to include adult patients with relapsed or refractory FLT3-mutated AML (R/R AML), as well as maintenance therapy following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation to help reduce the risk of relapse.- Estimated number of beneficiaries: approximately 29 patients.
- Patient's Estimated Savings: approximately NT$4.54 million per patient/year in drug expenses.
- Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Medicinal products containing aumolertinib (Pulmivex film-coated tablets) are now covered for adult patients with EGFR-mutated locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer, providing a new treatment option.- Estimated number of beneficiaries: approximately 139–1,242 patients.
- Patient's Estimated Savings: approximately NT$314,000 per patient/year in drug expenses.
- Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer (mCRPC)
Medicinal products containing cabazitaxel are now covered for patients with mCRPC whose disease has progressed despite hormone therapy and who have previously received docetaxel, providing a new later-line treatment option.

- Osteoporosis
Medicinal products containing romosozumab (Evenity injectable solution) have been expanded to include first- and second-line treatment for postmenopausal women with osteoporosis at high risk of fracture.- Estimated number of beneficiaries: approximately 8,986–12,676 patients.
- Patient's Estimated Savings: approximately NT$94,000 per patient/year in drug expenses.
- Myopia Control in Children and Adolescents
Atropine 0.05% eye drops are now covered for myopia control in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.- Estimated number of beneficiaries: approximately 300,000–430,000 children and adolescents.
- Multidrug-resistant Organism Infections
Medicinal products containing cefiderocol (Fetroja for Injection) are now covered for the treatment of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections, including complicated urinary tract infections and hospital-acquired pneumonia.- Estimated number of beneficiaries: approximately 2,025–4,380 patients.
- Patient's Estimated Savings: approximately NT$235,000 per patient in drug expenses per treatment course.
- Hemophilia Prophylaxis
Medicinal products containing fitusiran (Qfitlia solution for subcutaneous injection and Qfitlia prefilled pen) are now covered for prophylactic treatment of patients aged 12 years and older with severe hemophilia A or hemophilia B, regardless of the presence of inhibitory antibodies. The medication is administered via subcutaneous injection once every two months, improving treatment convenience.- Estimated number of beneficiaries: approximately 115-252 patients.
- Patient's Estimated Savings: approximately NT$11.2 million per patient/year in drug expenses.
- Neuropathic Pain and Other Diseases
Medicinal products containing pregabalin (Regalin oral solution) are now covered for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, and fibromyalgia, as well as adjunctive therapy for focal-onset seizures in adults. As an oral solution, the medication provides a new treatment option for patients with difficulty swallowing.- Estimated number of beneficiaries: approximately 1,896–2,471 patients.
- Patient's Estimated Savings: approximately NT$33,000 per patient/year in drug expenses (based on treatment for postherpetic neuralgia).
Director General Lian-Yu Chen stated that, in pursuit of the Healthy Taiwan vision, the NHIA will continue to expand access to evidence-based and cost-effective treatments aligned with international treatment guidelines. The NHIA will also balance healthcare innovation, financial sustainability, and patients’ needs while improving treatment outcomes and overall quality of care.
