When feeling unwell, is it better to visit a hospital or a nearby clinic? In fact, not every health concern requires a visit to a major hospital. The National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) reminds the public to choose a healthcare facility based on the medical needs and consider visiting a primary care facility close to home first.

How to Choose Where to Seek Care?
1. Mild symptoms, common colds, or routine follow-up for stable chronic conditions: Consider visiting a primary care facility (local clinic or district hospital) close to home first.
2. Further examinations or specialist treatment: A physician will assess the condition and refer the patient to an appropriate hospital if needed.
3. Follow-up after treatment once the condition is stable: Patients can return to a primary care facility for follow-up to maintain continuity of care.

What Are the Benefits of Tiered Healthcare Care?
- Ensuring timely treatment for patients with acute or severe conditions.
- Providing appropriate healthcare services for each patient.
- Improving efficiency and reducing waiting time.
- Reducing overcrowding at major hospitals.

The NHIA encourages the public to make good use of tiered healthcare and develop appropriate healthcare-seeking habits. By making neighborhood physicians their first line of care, healthcare resources can be used more effectively, contributing to the sustainability of the National Health Insurance (NHI).
