According to statistics from the Bureau of National Health Insurance, every year there are approximately one million people who apply for NHI card reissuance due to loss, damage, changes in personal information (name, ID number, etc.) or picture renewals. Approximately half of the applications are filed at the bureau's regional service centers, with the rest filed at local post offices. Yet the Bureau of National Health Insurance recommends that applicants may submit their applications through local post offices to help reduce traveling time and applicants can receive their new card within a week. Applicants are encouraged to visit local post offices to take advantage of this great service.
The Bureau would like to remind you that medical services can still be covered by insurance within 14 days of the renewal application. All patients have to do is present proof of the application for a new insurance card (i.e. the receipt of the NHI card application) and fill out the "Roster of National Health Insurance Exceptional Visit" at hospitals or clinics.
