Want to know the number of NHI beds allocated at each hospital? The service quality of NHI contracted hospitals? Whether the medicine you’re taking is covered by NHI? This information can all be found at the Government’s Open Data Platform ([Link])!
Providing access to governmental data has become a global trend for the government to interact with its citizens, corporations or organizations. Such a platform not only increases the transparency of governmental data but also combines various innovative value-added applications available in private organizations. Since its establishment, the NHI program has been running for 20 years during which a vast amount of medical data has been accumulated. To further extend the application of those data, the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) has successively established 120 data sets at the Government’s Open Data Platform for the general public to conduct any value-added applications or innovations with no charge.
The data sets that the NHIA put on the Government’s Open Data Platform comprise of 5 categories, including “Medical care Quality ”, “Medical Information Disclosure”, “Medical Institution Category”, “Important Statistics” and “Drug and Medical Devices.” And the “NHI underwriting related statistical data”, “NHI drug coverage archives” and “Diseases related data” were the most popular topics that people downloaded. Using the “Diseases related data” as example, this data set is able to let people search for the top 20 major diseases that incurred the most medical expenses, the weights of the medical expenses, growth rate and changes in ranking. In 2014, the diseases that incurred the highest amount of medical expenses were, in descending order, chronic renal failure, dental-related diseases, diabetes, hypertension and acute upper respiratory infections. Those kinds of information are critically related to people’s health.
The NHIA has continually established data set that features multiple dimensions, in the purpose to enhance the transparency of governmental information, elevate the value of NHI data, fulfill the requirements of medical industries, and increase the economic output of the medical industry. The ultimate goal is to create a mutually beneficial and reciprocal outcome for the government, medical industry, and private organizations.
