To respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and the transportation issues regarding medical professionals offering assistance in Tainan, the NHIA has worked on establishing offices for medical review in Yunlin, Chiayi and Xin-yin since the outbreak of the pandemic in the beginning of 2020. Medical review professionals can thus work off-site and alternatively. Medical review offices stationed abroad have been operating well since July, 2020. On October 8, 2021, the office in Yunlin was unveiled. Director General Dr. Po-Chang Lee, and directors from Taiwan Medical Association, Chinese Medical Doctors’ Association and Taiwan Dental Association participated in the opening ceremony of the Yunlin office. The medical professionals in Yunlin and superintendents of the hospital joined the discussion and recognized NHIA’s efforts in establishing the medical review offices stationed abroad.
To facilitate the precision in medical review, each medical review office stationed abroad is equipped with four sets of dual-screen computers in accordance with medical standard. The offices adopted real, time on, line communication with Southern Division of the NHIA to offer solutions to issues regarding the system and reviewing.
According to medical review professionals, with Intelligent Peer review Learning System, which has long been promoted by the NHIA, and complete hardware and software facilities in medical review offices stationed abroad, professionals are able to conduct reviewing regarding the rights of the public while reducing traffic accidents and time spent on commuting. The advancement may increase professionals’ willingness to participate in the medical review, enhance efficiency and quality of the medical review.
According to Director General Lee, it is expected that the medical review offices stationed abroad can further provide the medical professionals in Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan with more accessible resources. Director general Lee also showed gratitude to hospitals, western physician clinics, Traditional Chinese medical clinics and dental clinics, which have all been working hard to offer quality medical care.
