In response to the Taroko Express train derailment leading to many passengers injured on April 2, the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) reminds contracted healthcare providers to apply “Advices for Medical Visit under Particular Conditions” if the injured people ask for medical care but temporarily without their NHI card because of inaccessibility or card damage.
Meanwhile, for those involving in a car accident ask for medical care without their NHI card, an Exceptional List for Healthcare of NHI-Contracted Healthcare Providers can be applied. These Patients can receive NHI medical care by applying this list which providers must fill in date of medical visit, category of medical care (outpatient/inpatient), patient’s name, date of birth, ID number, phone number, and address.
In addition, the Eastern Division of the NHIA has launched the Emergent Mechanism for Medical Care in accordance with commands of the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW). Major hospitals in its jurisdiction, including Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital, Mennonite Christian Hospital, Hualien Armed Forces General Hospital, and Hua-Lien Hospital of MOHW, have participated in this operation for a large number of injured patients.
