The National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) has established the NHI MediCloud System to protect the medical safety of patients and enhance the quality of care. In July this year, the System was upgraded to provide notifications of interactions between Chinese and western medicines. As of November 15, a cumulative total of 18.89 million queries have been submitted to the System (including interactions between western medicines and between Chinese and western medicines). The highest number of notifications was for interactions between the herbal medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza, which promotes circulation, and aspirin, which is an anticoagulant. Concurrent use of these two medicines may cause stronger anticoagulation effects, leading to concerns of hemorrhaging. However, thanks to the NHI MediCloud System, medication safety was preserved for patients, thus demonstrating the effectiveness of the System in protecting patients.

The NHIA held the “NHI MediCloud System Benchmarking Seminar” today (the 4th) with a primary theme of "Sharing the Application Results of the NHI MediCloud System’s Active Notification Mechanism and Information Security Self-management Mechanism". Twelve benchmark medical institutions were invited to share the results of their applications of smart technology. The Seminar was attended by approximately 86 hospitals and primary care clinics, with nearly 300 people participating. Furthermore, the venue was divided into three display areas, including live demonstrations of the System on computers as well as poster presentations. This allowed members of the medical community to share their experiences and conduct exchanges.
