The National Hepatitis C program (NHCP) office reports that 72% of townships and districts that are defined as areas of high risk (level 6-7) and mid-high risk (level 4-5) - the majority of which are in Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung areas - have no gastroenterologists registered to practice medicine. The Pharmaceutical Benefit and Reimbursement Scheme Joint committee (PBRS) has ruled that all-oral Hepatitis C treatment is not limited to certain specialists, ensuring that more patients can receive timely treatment after being diagnosed with Hepatitis C, according to the announcement made on Oct 22, 2021. Hepatitis C patients who need kidney dialysis can now receive treatment; the medical institution that offers Hepatitis B, C screening test can also provide oral Hepatitis C treatments to patients diagnosed with Hepatitis B or C as part of adult preventive care. By opting for medical treatment instead of seeking it through referrals, Hepatitis C treatments have been made much more accessible.

According to the NHIA, because oral medications to treat Hepatitis C (DAA) are no longer restricted to certain specialists, specialists can now take part in Hepatitis screening, monitor patients' Hepatitis medical treatments via the NHI MediCloud System and prescribe effective medications.

According to the NHIA, since the treatment of Hepatitis C is no longer limited to specific specialists as of Oct 22, the number of patients seeking medical attention has increased to 400 weekly. Most of the patients are in Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan.
