The NSAIDs Use Reminder for High-Risk Kidney Patient will start in February 2022 to increase medication safety for about 220 thousand patients. To protect the kidney function of kidney patients and avoid kidney injury due to medications, the NHIA uses the NHI MediCloud by implementing three layers of protection to ensure medication safety for kidney patients.

The first-layer protection is an abstract to remind doctors of avoiding nephrotoxic drugs because this patient has moderate-to-severe or severe chronic kidney problems. The second one is, while doctor prescribing, the NHI MediCloud will provide the doctor with the notice of this patient’s use of NSAIDs within 28 days. The third one is that for stages three-to-five chronic kidney patients and dialysis patients, the NHI MediCloud will warn the doctor if NSAIDs is prescribed over a certain number of days. The design of the third-layer protection has been planned for a year by cooperating with Taiwan Society of Nephrology, Taiwan Hospital Association, Taiwan Medical Association and Federation of Taiwan Pharmacists Associations.
