The virtual NHI card starting in 2018 has been applied for telemedicine in remote areas, home health care and video consultations for patients in quarantine since 2021. While visiting a doctor, people need to use the NHI APP and with a complete registration. Instead of inserting a physical card into a card reader, a doctor scans the patient’s QR code generated by the NHI APP, then reaches the NHI MediCloud to access a patient’s medical record in order to conduct evaluations and treatments and avoid duplicate medications or examinations. By using virtual NHI cards for telemedicine, the needs for specialized healthcare in Hualian, Taitung, offshore islands and remote areas could be fulfilled and local healthcare accessibility is therefore enhanced.
