The National Health Insurance (NHI) is a mandatory social insurance program. People living in Taiwan who are eligible for NHI must enroll in an insured unit according to their category. People who are temporally unemployed or switching jobs shall keep both themselves and their dependents insured. Further, on the first day of work, new employees need to provide their dependent list for NHI to the new company in order to enroll in NHI, making them and their dependents insured at the same time.

If anyone would like to check who is insured under their name, they may use the NHI APP to find out. Please go to the “Personal Inquiry and Settings” of the “E-Counter” in the APP to check the dependent list.

In addition, those who are between jobs and have no suitable individuals such as spouses or adult children to depend on can keep themselves insured by using the NHI APP to enroll in. Please go to the E-Counter in the APP, and click the "The Municipal Office Insured” to online apply for NHI through the municipal office of their registered household. They may also go to the municipal office to apply in person with necessary documents.
