The NHIA constantly conducts "the Survey on the willingness for the use and share of the NHI data" to use the public's views as references for policy-making. This survey section is located on the front page of the NHI APP and is also accessible at the NHIA's official LINE account.
Safeguarding people's health in Taiwan for 27 years, the NHI has collected 70 billion medical records. Under the premise of ensuring the security of personal data, the NHIA has made the NHI data available for academic research use, thereby facilitating people's health and wellbeing. In addition, since 2018, medical institutions have uploaded imaging data of medical examinations totaled at 3.55 billion records. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence in recent years, the NHIA has opened the application for the utilization of de-identified medical images, further increasing the application value of the NHI data. Domestic scholars have published over 6,550 papers using data from the National Health Insurance Research Database. These academic studies provide outstanding contributions to policy-making, health management, disease treatment, and pandemic tracking and surveillance.
